Mushroom Risotto with Cabernet Sauvignon

This is a delicious dish from Northern Italy. This takes a little more time for preparation and cooking but it’s worth the effort.

Wine and dine daily at Cass Winery.2009-01-03 18:21:34 ID=252:2

If you are wine tasting on the East side of Paso Robles, Cass winery is destination for both wine and food. Cass winery is located just down the road from us on Linne Road, and a few miles from our friends Bill and Barbara Spenser A Visit to Windrose Farm July 14, 2008.
The Cass Cafe menu is a perfect example of the adage "What grows together, goes together." Great local wine and great local produce, it doesn't get any better. Executive Chef Brandon McPartland will be on sabbatical at the end January, so make plans to go now and not miss out!

More ways to stretch your wine purchasing dollar

This is an interesting article because the I think that the writer is Napa based! Anyway, the writer suggest horizontal exploration with in a wine price range and try some new kinds you haven't tasted before.. She is keen on Syrah and a lot of the Mediterranean varietals. So are we!
There is a lot of really good wine available. I would argue to try and buy domestic if you can. Not only are you supporting our local wine industry, but encouraging the industry to increase it offerings - there is lot more to wine than Cabernet and Chardonnay!

Globalization of the Food Market is causing declines in food quality and domestic farm production.

It is important to look at the food labels to know where the food you are putting on your table is coming from. The news this last year has been rife with stories of lax overseas quality standards. The best way to protect our food supply - and your health is to buy locally.
Make a point of supporting our domestic growers, and especially our local farmers. Visit the local farmers markets and help keep the small family farms in business while supporting our local economy at the same time.

Times must be hard, the only bread Sonoma is laying out is gingerbread in the "The Gingerbread Winery Contest"
Well, in this case if the investors have to "eat" their investment, it might not too bad an experience!

Napa's Copia in Chapter 11.

Napa's Copia a '... Cultural museum and education center dedicated to the discovery, understanding, and celebration of wine, food and the arts in American culture," is now in Chapter 11.
I have to admit I never went there. As a Central Coaster, I generally avoid Napa's scripted tourist attractions as much as I can. The lesson we all can learn from this is that the wine consumer is a lot more savvy than a lot of the marketing people in the business.
One more laugh to add on to the stack -the rocket scientists at Google still rate the now one page Copia website a 6/10!

The Light Brown Apple Moth, how serious a threat is it?
2008-12-30 12:09:13 ID=244:2
sonomasun.thmm.com
There have been a number of Light Brown Apple Moth finds lately, most in Northern California, resulting in more areas now under local quarantine. UC Davis feels that the damage the pest inflects seems to be overstated and the USDA may be overacting. It turns out the problem is really the fact that several of our trading partners have quarantines in effect and an endemic infestation could cause export problems.

The 2009 Avocado crop will be the smallest in the last 20 years.

We already know that 2008 was a bad year for grapes, but 2008 will also go down in the records as a poor growing season for avocados.
The 2009 crop is based upon the 2008 growing season. California had a hard winter freeze followed by a hot spell during pollination time, basically everything went wrong. It is expected the crop will be the smallest in the last 28 years.
