A tip from Sue!

Mark perishable ingredients

When ever you bring home a brand new spice, oil, vinegar, flour, sugar or other perishable ingredient, mark the bottle/container with the day’s date with a felt tip pen. Most "permanent markers" will write on just about any container.

That way if you don’t use it very much, but it’s been opened, you know how fresh it is. For an important meal don’t “submarine yourself” by using past expiration ingredients that have long lost their fresh taste and flavor.

Americans are buying lower cost wines, but more of them. While sales are down for more expensive wines, overall sales are holding steady because rather than buying a few expensive bottles of wine, consumers are buying cheaper wines by the case.

California wines are one of the biggest winners. It will interesting to see if the California producers will use this opportunity to build market share, or like the rest of short-sighted American management, get greedy on the short term and tank in the long term.

If you are wine tasting on the East side of Paso Robles, Cass winery is destination for both wine and food. Cass winery is located just down the road from us on Linne Road, and a few miles from our friends Bill and Barbara Spenser A Visit to Windrose Farm July 14, 2008.

The Cass Cafe menu is a perfect example of the adage "What grows together, goes together." Great local wine and great local produce, it doesn't get any better. Executive Chef Brandon McPartland will be on sabbatical at the end January, so make plans to go now and not miss out!

More ways to stretch your wine purchasing dollar

This is an interesting article because the I think that the writer is Napa based! Anyway, the writer suggest horizontal exploration with in a wine price range and try some new kinds you haven't tasted before.. She is keen on Syrah and a lot of the Mediterranean varietals. So are we!

There is a lot of really good wine available. I would argue to try and buy domestic if you can. Not only are you supporting our local wine industry, but encouraging the industry to increase it offerings - there is lot more to wine than Cabernet and Chardonnay!
